Judge Najla Ayubi is a lawyer and was Program Director for Law, Human Rights, and Women’s Empowerment in The Asia Foundation’s Afghanistan office until recently, and contributed greatly to crucial programming efforts including co-authoring the 2011 Survey of the Afghan People as well as the Afghan survey in 2010. Judge Ayubi is a former prosecutor and Commissioner of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and the Joint Electoral Management Body (JEMB) of Afghanistan, and also served as a Legal Advisor to the State Ministry for Parliamentary Affairs within the Afghan Government. Judge Ayubi was recently named Country Director for the Open Society Foundation (OSF’s) Afghanistan office. Prior to joining the Asia Foundation, from 2006-2007, she was an OSI Chevening scholar at the University of York, at which she completed her second masters degree in Post-War Recovery and Development Studies. Judge Ayubi also currently sits as an Executive Board Member of the Afghan Woman’s Network and Global Advisory Board Member of South Asia Women's Regional Network.
