Senior Program Officer, China

HUANG Zhen is responsible for managing The Asia Foundation’s environment and disaster management programs in China, including projects aimed at fostering environmental stewardship among Chinese investors doing business abroad and enabling Chinese disaster relief teams to play a pivotal role in international humanitarian efforts.

After joining the Foundation in 2009, Zhen undertook law and governance projects such as the China Administrative Law program. Previously, she spent four years as a lecturer on environmental law with the Law Department of China Women’s University. From 2002 to 2005 she was a program advisor at the China office of LEAD: Leadership for Environment and Development where she managed projects including renewable energy education, LEAD training, and environmental governance in China. She is a LEAD Fellow.

Education: Huang Zhen holds a bachelor’s degree in Economic Law from China University of Political Science and Law, as well as a master’s degree in Environmental Law from the university’s Graduate School. Additionally, she earned a master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management with the Erasmus Mundus Masters course administered jointly by the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) at Lund University in Sweden, Central European University in Hungary, and the University of Manchester in the U.K.
