Pulitzer Prize-Winning Novelist


James A. Michener, founding member of the Foundation's Board of Trustees (1954-1963), was a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist. Mr. Michener's writing career began during World War II, when as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and assigned to the South Pacific Ocean as a naval historian. He later turned his notes and impressions into more than 40 titles including his first book, Tales of the South Pacific, which won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1948.
