Rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy
The Asia Foundation topped the list of worthy charities concerned with "Asia and Asian American" with an "A" or "Excellent" rating from the AIP. AIP rates nationally prominent charities and is bases its ratings mainly on and examination of ratio of money raised to program costs (must be at least 75% to qualify for list) and fundraising efficiency (must spend no more than $25 for every $100 raised to make list). In 2011, The Asia Foundation was ranked as the 4th largest charity in the Bay Area by The San Francisco Business Times.
Honorary Medal from Afghan President Hamid Karzai
President Karzai presented The Asia Foundation an honorary medal for its contributions to the development of the new Constitution for Afghanistan. The medal was presented during the closing ceremony of all 502 delegates of the Constitutional Loya Jirga in Kabul following the ratification of the Constitution on January 4, 2004.
