Hong Kong SAR

In Hong Kong SAR, The Asia Foundation focuses on a long-term development plan to help foster effective citizenship and philanthropy. This includes donor services to encourage efficient and increased giving, supporting partnerships between businesses and nonprofit organizations, improving the legal and regulatory framework for philanthropy, and enhancing financial sustainability and transparency among nonprofit organizations.

The Asia Foundation's philanthropic activities include roundtables for leading private donors and relevant government officials to explore ways on expanding the size and improving the quality of philanthropy in Hong Kong. The Foundation also brings international experts on the non-profit sector to Hong Kong to consult with government on needed policy research and regulatory reform, and also to initiate in-depth, empirical research on Hong Kong's non-profit sector and the legal and regulatory environment. The office also liaises with Hong Kong donors supporting the Foundation's program in mainland China. One such project is the Pearl River Delta Environmental Project which aims to minimize pollution by supporting positive environmental policy and practices within the textiles and dyeing industry. Activities include training, cleaner production forums, establishing an online directory for clean technology suppliers, policy research and report, and an environmental design award. Project partners include local government, academic institutions, industry associations, enterprises, supply chain actors and local environmental experts.

Additionally, for more than 30 years, the Foundation has placed 54 future leaders of America on working scholarships in Hong Kong SAR through the Luce Scholars Program.

Foundation activities in Hong Kong SAR are conducted with the guidance and support of a distinguished Hong Kong Leadership Council (HKLC), consisting of prominent figures from Hong Kong's private sector. The HKLC has played a leading role in promoting a vision for more effective philanthropy in Hong Kong SAR.
