In Hong Kong SAR, The Asia Foundation focuses on a long-term development plan to help foster effective citizenship and philanthropy. The first phase included donor education to encourage efficient and increased giving, as well as business-NPO partnerships. Other projects emphasize the legal and regulatory framework for philanthropy, and enhanced financial sustainability and transparency among non-profit organizations. The Foundation has organized policy roundtables for leading private donors and relevant government officials to explore ways on expanding the size and improving the quality of philanthropy in Hong Kong. The Foundation also brings international experts on the non-profit sector to Hong Kong to consult with government on needed policy research and regulatory reform, and also to initiate in-depth, empirical research on Hong Kong’s non-profit sector and the legal and regulatory environment.
Foundation programs in Hong Kong SAR are conducted with the guidance and support of a distinguished Hong Kong Leadership Council (HKLC). The HKLC continues to expand and now consists of 11 of Hong Kong’s prominent figures from the private sector. The HKLC has played a leading role in promoting a vision for more effective philanthropy in Hong Kong SAR.
