Huang Shumei is a lawyer, legal rights expert, and Asia Foundation partner supporting women working in the factories of China’s Guangdong Province. As Director of the Guangdong Women’s Federation, Shumei provides pro bono legal aid services to women workers who frequently have no other access to legal counsel. These women are often unaware of their legal rights concerning workplace safety and fair compensation. Huang Shumei and her colleagues work hard to inform them of their rights under the law and providing avenues for redress through legal aid.
